International Christian University
CULTURE PROGRAM
The aim of the culture program is not to
teach a stereotypical portrait of Japan,
but to provide a diverse set of cultural
contexts. By experiencing cultural
activities
and by listening to and talking with
experts
working in Japan, students are encouraged
to consider Japanese culture and society.
The culture program includes a lecture
series
(lectures in either Japanese or English),
a film series, on-campus activities
and a
number of short trips to, for example,
historical
and religious sites, such as kamakura
and
Meiji shrine. All these activities
are scheduled
in the afternoon (some trips are on
weekends),
and are optional. For some events,
there
is an additional charge.
HOKKAIDO HOMESTAY PROGRAM
Many ICU students in the past have joined
the Hokkaido Cultural Exchange Program,
sponsored
by the Hokkaido International Foundation.
This program is conveniently scheduled
immediately
after the Summer Course. Participants
are
provided the opportunity to live with
and
work alongside Japanese families on
the northernmost
island of Japan for a period of two
weeks.
Students will not only experience Japanese
family life first hand, but also will
be
able to put their newly-acquired language
skills to immediate use. Those who
require
more information beforehand may contact
EduServe/GlobaLearn
Programs. Details and application forms
will
be sent in April to those who make
inquiry.
